I want to  reject message from a DG's email ID but allow messages from its members

Hi

I have a situation to configure my company owner's mailbox to reject message from a HR dept Distribution group. For that I configured Reject message from under mailflow settings and added the Distribution group alias and saved. It was working fine but the problem is none of that  DG's member can send email to this particular recipient. So I am in trouble and need to reject message from the DG's email ID but allow messages from its members

Please help me to fix it

Hello,

Simple method is remove the owner from the distribution group. If thy still want him/her on the group, create a security group and make that mail disable and add the owner to the group

The trouble with reject settings under a specific mailbox is that if you add a distribution group, Exchange will actually prevent messages coming from that DL's members. You can check by doing Get-Mailbox id | fl Reject* after specifying a group under the "reject" settings for the id mailbox and check that RejectMessagesFromDLMember is indeed set. If you look at the Technet page for the corresponding Set-Mailbox cmdlet, the explanation for this parameter reads "The RejectMessagesFromDLMembers parameter specifies distribution lists. Messages from any member of these distribution lists are rejected."

You'll reach your goal by using a transport rule scoped to the HR group as sender and an action of either "Reject the message with the explanation" or "Delete the message without notifying anyone". Messages coming from individual members of that DL won't be blocked.

Hi,

Try to configure this transport rule.

Best Regards.
